The following is an outline of the completed and planned work for the B-17 project.
- Reverse Pilot Seat Frame
We have disassembled and reversed one of the additional pilot seat frames converting it to a co-pilot seat frame. The frame was repaired where required and the missing pieces fabricated per drawings. We are still waiting of the plating kit from Eastwood Company so we can plate the new steel pieces that were fabricated.
- Armor Plate
The Pilot and co-pilot armor plates were reproduced from suitable aluminum plate. These “armor” plates were made per drawings and resemble the originals.
- Light Switch Mount
The Bulkhead 5 light switch mount was fabricated per the drawings, including appropriate decals, and mounted to the bulkhead 5 section that we have previously constructed.
- Throttle Quadrant
Work has begun on restoring the best of the throttle quadrants. New parts are being made as required, original parts that can be restored are being returned to airworthy condition.
- Hollywood Plane
The fiberglass cheek window was trimmed and fitted, then painted and riveted to the plane. Also the nose was attached in preparation of the plane’s departure.
- Carburetor Air Stand
Continued machining of the inner tracks from bar stock and fabrication of new parts.
- B17 Fixture
Rust mitigation was performed on the fixture and accessible sections of the fixture were painted with paint suggest by Ray Moore.
- Pallet Racks
Pallet racks were erected allowing us to begin tackling the much needed task of organizing the original B17 parts and clearing floor space for the upcoming work on the wings.
- Cleaning and Organization
The disassembled Dyke Lake plane parts have been put on pallets and placed on the rack. Parts that have already been replicated have been kept separate from those parts which await reproduction.
- P-38 Vertical
We attached the rudder to the vertical, reproduced missing panels and constructed a stand for the P-38 vertical.
- Co-Pilot Seat Frame/Track
Once the plating kit arrives we will be able to plate the newly made steel parts and continue with the assembly of the seat track and frame.
- Wing Repair
It is our intent to move an outer wing panel to our hanger and begin its restoration.
