Welding Practice

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011

I wanted to practice notching and welding the tubing before I get started on the cage.  Trying different settings to get the heat and wire speed right.  Here are my first results:

45° miter, not too bad of a fit.

90° miter. Decent fit also.

Blurry photo but the weld is much better.

Amazing what a real welder can do.

Here’s my first weld with the new welder.  It’s nice to have something that works properly!

We had a blog previously that tracked the Twisted Camaro build but our server was hacked and all data was lost.  So instead of trying to recreate the old blog, I’ll post all of the pictures from the past and comment on them where necessary.  I’ll then start with the most current work and try to update the build regularly.

So, below are some of the photos of the car from when it was purchased up to today.

$150 Camaro Fresh off the trailer.

The car was mostly stripped when we got it.

6 cyl just waiting to come out.

Battery tray rust is the only major rust on the car.

Body panels coming off.

Front clip off.

Ground effects coming off.

Ground effects getting some work during the down time.

V6 T-5 out and sold for $100. Cost of car now $50!

V6 on the way out!

Getting ready for the gas tank removal.

Gas tank out!

Engine compartment getting stripped.

Started removing all of the seam sealer.
