Almost ready to start on the seat mount.

Just about ready to start on the door bars.

Check out my Rear End!

March 3rd, 2011

Here’s the new rear housing for the car.  A Ford 9″ made by Speedway Engineering for Roush Yates Racing.  That’s right, NASCAR’s Roush.  This rear came from a Road Race Cup car! Complete with ARP studs, vent, fill, drain and cooler bungs.  Also brake & sway-bar mounts.  The truck arm mounts will have to be cut off since we can’t run truck arms.

Full Floater!

Vent, fill, drain and cooler bungs.

...even has the jacking point on bottom of housing.

ARP Studs!

A look at the tubes from the inside.

Magnet in the bottom.

Welding Practice

February 23rd, 2011

I wanted to practice notching and welding the tubing before I get started on the cage.  Trying different settings to get the heat and wire speed right.  Here are my first results:

45° miter, not too bad of a fit.

90° miter. Decent fit also.

Blurry photo but the weld is much better.

Amazing what a real welder can do.

February 21st, 2011

Here’s my first weld with the new welder.  It’s nice to have something that works properly!

First weld with the new Hobart.
